Why Pacifica Homeowners Choose Therma-Tru Construction

We provide Therma-Tru repair in Pacifica, from the bluff-top streets of Pedro Point to the Sharp Park flats. Our crew has worked on Therma-Tru entry doors in this coastal climate long enough to know exactly how fiberglass and steel slabs behave when salt fog and winter storms hit them season after season. We are not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by Therma-Tru. We’re an independent contractor that sources genuine OEM components and quality aftermarket parts to keep these doors operating as designed. Call (833) 589-8173 for a free estimate on any Therma-Tru door repair, adjustment, or replacement.

Why Trust Copperleaf Contractors for Your Therma-Tru Construction?

Therma-Tru doors are built differently than most entry systems, and servicing them correctly requires knowing what’s behind the skin. We’ve pulled apart enough Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star slabs on Pacifica homes to understand how the fiberglass skin, the composite stiles, and the factory weatherseal system all interact. When a door sticks, drafts, or won’t latch, the cause is rarely the slab itself. It’s usually the threshold, the hinge alignment, or the weatherstripping, and fixing the wrong one wastes your money.

Noel Cavanaugh, our owner and general contractor, grew up in Sharp Park, where the salt air and the constant battle against coastal moisture gave him an early education in what doors and frames actually have to withstand. He studied construction technology at Skyline College and has spent the better part of two decades working up and down the San Mateo County coast. His rule on every Pacifica job is the same: know the site before you touch it. That means we check hinge sag, threshold compression, and the condition of the rough opening before we recommend any repair. We use genuine Therma-Tru hardware, weatherstrip, thresholds, and sills when replacing worn components, and quality aftermarket glass and hardware when OEM lead times make that impractical. The goal is a door that seals and latches the way the factory intended, not a patch that fails next storm season.

Common Therma-Tru Construction Problems We Fix in Pacifica

Here are the five most common Therma-Tru issues we see on coastal homes in Pacifica, and what’s actually causing them:

  • Chalky oxidation and hairline cracks on the fiberglass skin. The Fog-Classic and Smooth-Star lines hold up well inland, but Pacifica’s UV exposure and salt air take a toll. We see doors on west-facing Pedro Point homes where the factory finish has oxidized to a chalky film and the skin shows fine surface cracks after a decade of direct sunlight and marine air. The fix is a proper surface prep, re-seal, and refinish before the cracks deepen into the substrate.
  • Door swelling or sticking at the jamb. This is rarely a slab problem. What usually happens is that the factory weatherstripping compresses over time while the threshold corrodes from salt-laden moisture, and wind-driven rain starts getting past the seal. The slab then sits tight against a swollen or misaligned frame. We replace the threshold and sweep, reset the frame if needed, and the door closes flush again.
  • Multipoint lock and deadbolt binding on Classic-Craft slabs. The Classic-Craft American Style collection uses a heavier slab than most entry doors. When the top hinge sags, even slightly, the multipoint lock mechanism at the top and bottom of the door starts binding against the strike plates. Forcing the handle makes it worse. We realign the hinges and adjust the lock points so the mechanism throws smoothly without grinding.
  • Rot and finish breakdown at the bottom rail and sidelite sill. This is the most common failure we see on Pacifica homes built before 1980. Moisture pools against the bottom rail where the frame wasn’t flashed or caulked properly, and once the wood-fiber composite wicks that moisture, rot begins. The sidelite sills are just as vulnerable. We cut out the rotted section, rebuild or replace the sill, and re-flash so water sheds away from the frame.
  • Fogged or failed glass in the door lite or sidelites. Therma-Tru door glass uses insulated units, and the seal between the panes eventually fails in coastal conditions. The symptom is permanent fogging or condensation between the glass that you can’t wipe off. The glass unit gets replaced, not the entire door, which saves you real money.

Therma-Tru Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We use genuine Therma-Tru hardware, weatherstrip, thresholds, and sills whenever we’re replacing worn components. These parts are made to the factory dimensions, so the door seals and latches the way it did when it was new. When Therma-Tru OEM lead times stretch out, or when a specific piece of glass or trim has been discontinued, we use quality aftermarket components that match the original spec. We’ll tell you which is which and why before we order anything.

The repair-vs-replace decision is straightforward. If the slab and frame are structurally sound, we repair and re-seal. If rot has compromised the bottom rail, the fiberglass skin is delaminating, or a failed lock bore has weakened the door, replacement is the honest call. We don’t rebuild doors that should be retired, and we don’t sell replacements for doors that just need a threshold. Call (833) 589-8173 if you’re not sure which camp your door falls into. We’ll tell you straight.

Our Therma-Tru Service Process – Step by Step

  1. 1
Diagnosis. We inspect the slab, hinges, threshold, weatherseal, and rough opening together. A sticking door is never just one problem, and Pacifica’s coastal conditions mean we check for corrosion and moisture intrusion even when they aren’t the reported issue.
  2. 2
Repair or install. For repairs, we replace the failed components with OEM or matched aftermarket parts, then adjust the door so all four seals make contact and the lock throws cleanly. For installs, we set the frame plumb and square, shim behind each hinge, and flash the rough opening to shed water away from the sill.
  3. 3
Test. We run the door through full open-close cycles, check the latch and deadbolt alignment, and verify the weatherseal is making contact all the way around. On windy bluff lots, we check for air infiltration at the frame corners.
  4. 4
Warranty. We stand behind our labor, and genuine Therma-Tru parts carry their own manufacturer coverage. If something we installed or adjusted isn’t right, we come back.

Therma-Tru Products We Service & Install in Pacifica

We work on the full Therma-Tru residential lineup, including the Fiber-Classic smooth fiberglass entry doors, the Smooth-Star fiberglass line, the Classic-Craft American Style collection, and the Benchmark fiberglass entry door series. That covers the slab doors, the doors with decorative glass and sidelites, and the heavier Rustic and Mahogany-style skins that show up on older Pacifica homes. For parts, we keep common thresholds, sweeps, weatherstrip, and hinge hardware locally sourced so we can turn around most repairs without waiting on a long lead time. We also offer San Bruno Therma-Tru service, plus tile roofing, roof repair, and window replacement, so we can coordinate door work with the rest of the exterior envelope.

A Pacifica homeowner called us about a Fiber-Classic entry door that had started sticking and letting drafts in during winter storms. We found the factory threshold and bottom sweep corroded and the hinge screws loose in a sagging top hinge, so we reset the frame, installed a new OEM threshold and sweep, adjusted the multipoint lock, and refinished the bottom rail to seal out the coastal damp. The door closed flush and latched smoothly again. That’s the kind of repair we handle routinely.

We Also Service These Brands

Therma-Tru is one brand we know deeply, but it’s not the only one. We also install and service cabinetry from KraftMaid, countertops from Cambria and Silestone, and plumbing fixtures from Kohler. That matters when a door project extends into an entryway remodel, a trim refresh, or a full exterior update. One contractor, every trade.
